Patients will require a minimum of 2 treatments. The average number of recommended treatments is 2-4 and a maximum of 6 treatments may be needed for individuals with larger necks. Once BELKYRA™ causes the destruction of fat cells in the treatment area, the result is permanent.
The Procedure
To prepare you for treatment at Skin Worthy Toronto, our specialist will clean the area and apply a topical anesthetic. Each BELKYRA™ treatment involves approximately 10 to 30 small injections in various locations beneath the chin. The fat is dissolved within 10-15 minutes of injection, however an inflammatory response is triggered that causes swelling and takes approximately 3-4 weeks to fully subside. Therefore, you will not see your final result for approximately 4 weeks following your injection. In addition most patients experience mild soreness, similar to a bruised/sore muscle, in the treatment area under the chin. You may ibuprofen, or Tylenol as needed for discomfort. Side Effects
Because the active ingredient in BELKYRA™ occurs naturally in the human body, severe reactions to this nonsurgical facial rejuvenation treatment are uncommon. However, there are some risks such as excessive swelling, bruising, redness, numbness, tenderness and hardness that may accompany any injectable treatment. Additional side effects also include occasional headaches, heaviness in the treated area, dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), injection site induration, injection site nodule, and injection site pruritus.
