Skip The Scalpel - The Non Surgical Nose Job Is Here

Updated: Jun 27, 2023

Every year brings new trends in both surgical and non surgical cosmetic treatments.

2018 seemed to be the year of the nose. Lips, and botox are always a staple, however with more and more patients not wanting to undergo the knife, more are seeking an alternative to rhinoplasty.

On instagram you will find a multitude of hashtags showing before and after photos of this augmentation #nonsurgicalnosejob #liquidnosejob #liquidrhino and the list goes on. This relatively new trend of a non surgical nose augmentation is an exciting alternative for patients who want to improve the shape and appearance of their nose without going through an invasive surgery. A non surgical nose augmentation at Skin Worthy can help improve the proportions of the nose, straighten the dorsum of the nose, build up the bridge or the tip of the nose, or finally give a slight lift to the tip of the nose.

A few facts on how we treat the nose:

  • To achieve these results we inject tiny amounts of a firm hyaluronic acid based dermal filler into the areas of the nose that require volume.

  • The treatment takes approximately 15 minutes.

  • Your results will be seen instantly.

  • Typical downtime is 2-4 days vs 2-4 months when surgically operated

  • We typically treat the nose in two sessions at least 2 weeks apart to achieve our desired result.

  • Your results can last up to a year.

  • Depending on your nose, and the treatment goals we will inject filler into the nose with 2 different tools- one is a needle and the other a micro cannula. ( The video below will discuss the difference between these two tools).

Although this is a great alternative to surgery, not everyone is a candidate for fillers in the nose, and it is important to understand the adverse events and risks of this proceedure. The nose is also one of the highest risk areas to inject dermal filler in the face, so here are some considerations:

  • Bruising can happen. Swelling and tenderness are common for approximately 4 days post injection.

  • Capillaries in the nose can break more commonly here than other areas of the face post dermal fillers.

  • Over injection into the bridge can give the nose a wide and unnatural broadened bridge. I have seen too many patients who’s injectors have given them an unnaturally high and broad bridge that results in the “Avatar Nose”.

  • The nose is one of the highest risk areas on the face for intra vascular injection of dermal filler, or vascular compression from dermal filler. Both of these events can prevent adequate blood flow to tissue and as a result tissue can die, ulcerate, and can take months to heal. This is called tissue necrosis and if it is significant enough, it can develop significant scarring or even require surgery and a skin graft to correct.

  • The bridge of the nose is one of the highest risk areas on the face for irreversible blindness, although this is very rare, it is still a consideration and every patent should be informed of this risk before they are treated at any clinic. I too often hear patients have never been informed of this risk even though they have been getting dermal filler treatments elsewhere for years.

At Skin Worthy we don’t treat patients who have had a previous surgical rhinoplasty. If you haven’t achieved the result you want and are considering filler for the nose, It is best advised that you return to the surgeon who did your surgery. Once the nose is operated on, vessels can be repositioned, scar tissue can be significant and injecting dermal fillers to this area becomes much more of a risk.

At Skin Worthy, we value educating our patients on any procedure they are having, if you are considering the non surgical nose job, we encourage you to come in for a complimentary consultation.
